Cheltenham would challenge Bath as the most complete Regency town in England. Arriving in chauffeur driven luxury you will immediately appreciate the beautiful parks and tree line venues. The town is an ideal base if you are planning to spend some time visiting the Cotswolds.
Something always seems to be happening in Cheltenham: there are international music festivals, literary festivals, the mysterious game of cricket and the National Hunt Festival, horse racing over the sticks culminating in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. There are many fine shops, restaurants and fashionable bars and a host of other attractions.
The composer of the Planets suite, Gustav Holst was born here and his home in a Regency terraced house is open to the public displaying pictures and other mementoes of the composer along with his manuscripts. There is also a working Victorian kitchen and a Regency drawing-room.
The world famous Arts & Craft collection located in the Art Gallery and Museum owes its
inspiration to the designer William Morris. The gallery also has a fine collection of Dutch 17th and 19th century paintings and rare examples of oriental and English ceramics.
Sudeley Castle was the last home and resting place of Katherine Parr wife to Henry VIII and has many other royal connections. The various gardens that surround the castle have won many awards and there is an ever changing programme of exhibitions held throughout the year.
Not far off is the narrow gauge steam railway at Toddington run by the North Gloucester Railway company. Running on a 2 foot wide track visitors can have a ride drawn by a perfect scale model of a period steam locomotive, view the collection of exhibits and look at a full working signal box.
