One
of the small gems of England. Located a little way from the county towns
of Warwick and Stratford upon Avon, this elegant Spa Resort has retained
many of its Georgian and Victoran buildings. Today, the Pump Room, once
the centre of fashionable society, plays host to the many tourists visiting
the museum and art gallery. The museum houses displays of the Pump Room
at the height of it popularity along with details of the various treatments
on offer including some of the bizarre objects associated with them! If
you have the nerve one can still sample the spa water! The Jephson Gardens are a tranquil haven to spend some time in. Following a £4.3 million restoration project they have not only been returned to their former glory but have been added to with a Sensory Garden, Temperate Glass House and Riverside Restaurant. If you feel inclined there’s even boating on the river. The Gardens are home to many rare specimen trees and shrubs and there are also replicas of some of the lakes and fountains to be found at Hampton Court Palace near London.. A short drive in your chauffeur driven luxury car brings you to the largest ruined castle in England, Kenilworth. The site of Edward II’s abdication John of Gaunt built the Banqueting Hall and Elizabeth I lingered here in the company of her favourite, Robert Dudley. There is an exhibition of the history of the castle and an interactive model of the castle located on the site. This whole area of England was at the centre of the Civil War and many of its towns and cities have close links with the battles and the personalities of the period. |
